I am a Lecturer at the University of Reading and a Research Fellow at the Yokosuka Council on Asia Pacific Studies. My empirical research interests center on Southeast Asia’s maritime security governance, but has since broadened out to consider the Indo-Pacific. I am interested in how different actors (both domestic and international) work together on maritime security issues. This has a distinct policy angle as much of my work focuses on how this can be strengthened, particularly through more effective coordination and capacity building.
My theoretical basis is on the role of trust in international relations, where I also engage with ideas regarding Communities of Practice. I received my PhD at the University of Birmingham in 2019 (supervised by Nicholas Wheeler), and was formerly a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Bristol, where I worked on maritime crime and responses to it in the Indo-Pacific, and a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Leeds.
